Chris Nielsen has 19 years of teaching experience in government and Catholic education secondary schools. Throughout his teaching career, Chris has participated in the development of approaches to pedagogy, with a particular interest in the nature of scientific literacy and science learning. Chris has held various positions as a Learning Area Coordinator in the domains of both science and mathematics, and was a past member of the Science Teachers Association of Victoria (STAV) Council. Chris completed his Master of Education Studies at Federation University Australia in 2016 by conducting research on integrating the teaching and learning of literacy skills in the secondary science classroom. This research investigated strategies designed to explicitly teach academic vocabulary within a junior secondary science topic. Chris is currently a PhD student at Deakin University. His research topic is titled: Enriching mathematics and science learning: An interdisciplinary approach.
